Elephant teeth of Pygmy is one of the animals that once lived on Wallacea island.

According to scientists, Wallacea used to be home to animals such as Komodo dragons, tooth elephants for Pygmy and giant rodents. During the search for fossils in Sumba, one of the islands in this region, they discovered fossils from the Pleistocene geological position (the Tan Canh, more than 2.5 million years ago) and the Holocene (( Toan Tan, 11,700 years ago, included fossils of two extinct giant rodents and a tooth of Komodo dragon - the longest living lizard on Earth.

In addition, they also found fossils of toothed elephants searching for Pygmy , the smallest of the elephants. Earlier, British scientists also discovered fossils of similar animals in the island of Flores also in Wallacea, 50km north of Sumba Island.

The lead author of the study, Dr. Samuel Turvey of the London Zoo Association (ZSL), said many Wallacea animals were extinct when modern humans appeared prehistoric. Understanding the past biodiversity of islands in this area will help people better understand the evolution of animals, which causes some animals to become extinct or still life exists to this day and the impact of human activities on the ecosystem on the islands above.
