Discover the secret passage in the British Parliament leading into historical treasures

A forgotten passage used by prime ministers and founders that had been closed under Victoria was discovered in the British Parliament.

House renovation historians have found a 360-year-old passage hidden in a secret room.

According to the BBC, the doorways were created for the coronation of Charles II in 1660 to allow guests to celebrate at Westminster Hall, the building next to the modern House of Commons.

It was used by generations of parliamentarians and political figures, like diary writer Samuel Pepys, to be the main entrance to the House of Representatives but was blocked before being hidden in the thick walls of the old building. .

It was rediscovered briefly in 1950 during the repair of bomb damage but was later sealed and forgotten - until now.

It was Dr. Hallam Smith who discovered evidence of the small, secret door that was placed on the monastery panel during the last major congressional reform in 1950.

The team found a small copper keyhole and turned to a locksmith from Congress to open a wooden door, revealing a small stone room, with a brick doorway on the far wall.

They discovered the original hinge for the two 3.5m high wooden doors that would open to the Westminster Hall.

They also found graffiti from the reconstruction of Congress, in neo-gothic style, after a fire in 1834 destroyed most of the medieval palace.

Dr. Mark Collins, a historian of the National Assembly building, said the plans leading to their discovery will now be digitized as part of Congress' Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation program.

"We hope to share the story with visitors to the palace when the last building is restored to its former glory, so that it can be passed down to generations and will never be forgotten again." he said.
