Continuing the search and research of fossil bones in the cave Pesteracu Oase, Romania, the group of international paleontologists affirmed that today modern Europeans have evolved much more than in the early Stone Age. old 40,000 years ago.

In 2004, two paleontologists Erik Trinkaus (University of Washington, USA) and Joao Zilhao (Bristol University, UK) discovered human bones mixed with bear bones in the cave above.

A first human skull discovered as Oase 1 dating back to 40,500 years, is considered one of the oldest fossils of modern humans in Europe. A second skull, Oase 2 , dates from 35,000 to 40,000 years. This is one of the first modern people in Europe.

The human skull Oase 2 is about the size of today's modern human skull, but bears the typical features of ancient Neandertal people with flat forehead, developed molars.

According to the researchers, this skull proves that the first modern humans in Europe are not fully modernized. They evolved from the time of the Paleolithic to become modern people today. According to Trinkaus, who supports the hypothesis of a mix of modern and Neandertal people, this confirms that the modern man who confronted the ancient Neandertal came to settle in Europe first.
