Discover the unique red-necked bird

US scientists say they have accidentally discovered a red-necked bird in the forests of Gabon Republic, a country located in Central Africa.

Named for this petite bird, the olive-backed red-necked bird (or scientific name also called Stiphrournis pyrrholaemus), scientists also said they still don't know much about the bird.

On the occasion of a biodiversity project, the Smithsonian Institution team discovered the bird while visiting the forest, said Brian Schmidt, a researcher at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. .

'We were expecting something when we discovered the first bird in Gabon, because it's not exactly like any other species in this area,' he said.

'Previously, I also compared each of the characteristics of this bird to some of the other patterns we had in our collection, but it was clearly a special bird'.

Genetic tests have confirmed that this red-necked bird, with dimensions of 4.5 inches and weighs about 14 grams on average, is a unique species.

The female also has similar characteristics, but the colors are not as brilliant as the male. A special white dot in front of each eye is also a feature that distinguishes the two varieties.

Schmidt added that although the discovery of an unknown species such as the red-necked bird is not the goal of this project, however, this will certainly be one thing to remind people that this world is still There are many things that keep us surprised.
