Discover treasure before Christ

Bulgarian archaeologists unearthed a treasure of gold-made treasure from the end of the fourth or early third century BC in the northeastern region of the country.

Archaeological team leader Diana Gergova told AFP on 8 November: "We found a wooden crate on the upper floor of the burial site of the Thracians, containing elaborate offerings covered in gold cloth."

Items found near the village of Sveshtari include a golden crown, carved with a lion's head and other animals, bracelets, rings and other jewelry.

This treasure most likely belongs to the Getes tribe of Tharcian people. This is a mysterious, goldsmith tribe who skillfully occupies the land spreading from the Caucasus region to southwestern Europe.

The Getes lived in the area from the second millennium BC to the third century AD. A tribal grave was discovered in 1982 in Sveshtari, which has been classified as a world heritage by UNESCO.

During the excavation in 1992 to 1996, Gergova's group discovered a tomb with Doric-style pillars, a horse skeleton and a tree buried with the burial of the Getes.

Today Bulgaria is considered the cradle of Thracian civilization, which existed from the fourth millennium BC to the third century AD.
