Discover vestiges of ancient temples and pagodas in Tay Ninh

The archeological research center (Southern Institute of Social Sciences) has discovered vestiges and temples dating back about 1,000 years in Ben Cau district.

The archaeological team excavated 6 holes, each about 300m2, to explore the inner core of Ben Dinh Cultural and Historical Relic.

Through two months of research, they recently discovered many ancient architectural tower foundation quite intact. In addition, at the pits there are many pieces of broken pottery, baked bricks, stone foundation . On each vestige of burned bricks clearly show the detailed pattern details.

Master Le Hoang Phong, an officer of the Center for Archeological Research (Southern Institute of Social Sciences) considered this a very special monument. Early dating of these vestiges can be from the 8th to 9th centuries.

"There are some later stages, to know exactly, we must wait for the conclusion of analytical research by scientists. However, the early phase of the traces may be in the post-Oc Eo period. more than 1,000 years, " said Phong.

Nguyen Nam Giang, deputy director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tay Ninh, said that these are unique ancient architectural works, which are valuable for archeological research."In the coming time, the province will continue to research and excavate all architectural monuments, and at the same time have plans to restore and preserve them to promote the value of cultural heritages," Giang said.

Ben Dinh historical - cultural relic area was recognized as a historical - cultural province in 1998. It leaves traces with many archaeological artifacts showing religious architecture and the old harbor beside. south bank of Vam Co Dong river, on some high mounds. The date of this archaeological relic is estimated around the seventh to eighth centuries, with a later extended period.
