Discovering 1,000-year-old Cham Pa ruins

After more than half a month of excavation, a Cham Pa temple temple dating back to the 10th century has been revealed. This Cham Pa temple temple is at Group 3, Phong Le village (Hoa Tho Dong ward, Cam Le district, Da Nang).

Following an urgent excavation of an Cham Pa archaeological site in mid-2011 at this address, archaeologists also discovered a large area of ​​relics with a ruins of Cham Pa tower about 1,000 years ago. .

At this ruins complex is most notably a temple of Cham Pa tower discovered by archaeologists. Mr. Vo Van Thang - Director of Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture - said that this unit has collaborated with archaeologists at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University) to continue excavating to clarify this Cham Pa tower. . Thereby, there is a protection plan to serve conservation, education and tourism.

Currently in this relic, scientists are conducting excavations on a total area of ​​about 500m 2 to proceed to clarify the area of ​​the tower.

Through initial determination, this Cham Pa temple temple has an area of ​​about 16x16m with 4 corner towers, 3 side doors, 1 main door. Currently, archaeologists have also identified the main tower location, size, central location where the altar is located .

Directly conduct the excavation at the tower, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Manh, the ministry of archeology studies (Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities - National University of Hanoi), said the upcoming work will determine the steps up and down in the tower door, thickness of the tower wall, determine the width of the tower wall, the structure of the foundation under the tower . After determining the temple tower, the preservation will be easier.

Director of the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture - Vo Van Thang said: 'In this ruins area, there are no precious objects such as the previous excavation but only the huge foundation of the temple tower was discovered. great'.

Mr. Thang also said that the purpose of this excavation is to find out, determine the scale to add to the construction and protection of monuments according to the heritage law. The coming direction is to both preserve and exploit and serve education and tourism.
