Discovering 5,000-year fossil graveyard in Ly Son

The coral shaped like a heavy toned millstone has just been found in Ly Son (Quang Ngai) that is of great significance to the scientific world.

The survey process to prepare dossiers for establishment of Ly Son Geopark, expert of the Institute of Geosciences and Minerals has discovered coral fossils , which are considered as unique geological sites of Vietnam. .

"There is no such kind of coral fossil in the world , " said Nguyen Xuan Nam, a member of the research team, who said they found them near Hang Cau (An Hai commune).

Fossil mass weighs up to tons, 2 meters or more in diameter. It is like a millstone with eye-catching concentric rings that the Tonkin people often use.

The findings help scientists look at the history of ancient environments, while opening new research directions to coral formation. This is also an important basis in the application file for recognition of Ly Son Geopark.

"We expect coral fossils to be reorganized, becoming a visitor attraction , " Mr. Nam said.
