Discovering bees 'licking sweat to live'

American experts have discovered a new species of bees that feed in a very unusual way in New York City: licking sweat people to live.

A new bee is in the city with the nickname 'big apple' of America. Tiny insects, the size of sesame seeds, mainly feed on human sweat, literally.

The Wall Street Journal cited entomologist John Ascher of the American Museum of Natural History, saying that these bees are on their hands and nibbling on the salty taste of human sweat.

North America is home to thousands of indigenous bees, but it has long been forgotten before the congregation of exotic honey bees, which gives honey and wax more sweetness.

So when I caught these strange bees at Brooklyn's Prospect Park in 2010, it took long time for Ascher to determine its identity, thanks to expert Jason Gibbs at Cornell University.

Unlike the European species, sweat bees do not make much honey, but rarely burn people. They are very fond of prey who are sweating heavily, according to Ascher expert.
