Divrigi cathedral and hospital (Turkey)

Picture 1 of Divrigi cathedral and hospital (Turkey) This architectural complex of Medieval Turkey was founded by Chief Ahmet Mengucekid of Turkey in 1228-1229 in Eastern Anatalia, in the mountains of Divrigi.

The adjacent cathedral and crazy hospital (Marestan) were all built by the same architect Khurramshad d'Ahlat. The only chapel in the cathedral has five ceiling corridors built of stone with an ingenious technique and amazing handling of space. Above the chapel there are two roofs of half-large and small spheres, one roof above the baptismal tank and the main spherical half placed above Mihrab (the decorative wall recess points Mecca). The tower placed on this roof is the most complete architectural part of the cathedral.

Divrigi's surrounding walls have 3 ornately decorated gates with flower motifs and geometric patterns that are reminiscent of modern-day Asian and Georgian motifs. This population was recorded in the World Heritage List in 1985.
