The AP said the latest earthquake shook eastern Turkey early this morning with a magnitude of 5.2 richter. The epicenter was in Mollakasim village, Van province. There have been no reports of casualties and damage.

Seismic attacks occur when people in Van province are not shocked yet because of the two major earthquakes earlier. The most recent earthquake on 9/11 made at least 5 people dead, many high-rise buildings, including two hotels, collapsed, causing panic for the local people. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded by the US Geological Survey up to 5.7 richter, stronger than the 5.6-magnitude that Turkey's Kandilli observatory measured.

Plus last month's strong earthquake 7.2 richter, so far eastern Turkey has seen 2,000 buildings destroyed, 644 people were killed and thousands of people lost their homes because of the earthquake. The two earthquakes have turned Van's capital into a "ghost" city. Many people left Van because of fear despite their houses being damaged.

"This is a ghost city. Almost no buildings can be accommodated anymore," said provincial governor Munir Karaloglu. Mr. Karalogu called on the whole country to share with the people in the earthquake area even more when housing, food and warm clothes are becoming increasingly urgent. Some countries, including the US and Israel, have also supported tents and prefabricated houses for the Turkish people.

The survivors of Van province are struggling with the cold winter in the sky. Officials said the temperature last night dropped to -15 degrees Celsius in the town of Erics, Van province, where the worst of the first earthquake hit. A 7-year-old disabled girl lives in a makeshift tent that died on November 13 because of pneumonia. My father said he could not find a decent tent because the number of people needed tents was too high.

Turkey is a country not far from the earthquake because it lies on many fault lines. Two seismic attacks occurred in the densely populated area of northwestern Turkey in 1999, killing about 20,000 people.
