Does the fish know how to cry?

Fish also yawn, cough, even burp. But they are not choking. According to retired marine biologist Steve Webster in Monterey Bay, crying is an emotional reflex only in mammals with big brains.

According to him, people are 'conscious, able to recall past stories, plan for the future, and combine many other complex cognitive behaviors'.

"Fish don't have cortex - something that makes us different - so I doubt the fish information may be crying ," Webster told LiveScience. 'Certainly they can't tear up because their eyes are always in a water-filled environment.'
