Earthquake shook New Zealand

The city of Christchurch in New Zealand today was shaken by a seismic, which forced people here to flee the streets for safety.

New Zealand seismologists say the magnitude of the magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale occurred around 13:58 today in local time, AFP reported. Seismic depth is only 8km from the ground.

Shopping centers in the second largest city in New Zealand do not have a shadow after the earthquake and its aftershocks occur. New Zealand television station also said that Christchurch's international airport was closed.

Telephone and electricity in Christchurch have ceased operations. However, police said there were no immediate reports of damaged buildings after the earthquake.

Jo Davis, a resident of Christchurch, told Fairfax News that her neighbors were screaming."I was scared, probably because it had been a long time since we had such a strong earthquake. The TV and glass doors in my house were broken, but I felt like things were getting worse. before , " Davis said.

Christchurch in February suffered a 6.3 magnitude earthquake, killing 181 people and parts of the city center. A series of other shocks have happened in this city ever since. Scientists last month warned that the possibility of a seismic attack on Christchurch was on the rise.

New Zealand is located on the "Ring of Fire" in Oceania and the Pacific. Each year, the country suffers from about 15,000 tremors, large and small.
