Ecosystem will be disturbed if cockroaches disappear

Cockroaches are one of the animals that humans hate the most, but their extinction will cause catastrophes to the ecosystems on the planet.

What will the earth be like if cockroaches are extinct?

When seeing cockroaches, the first reaction of most people is to find ways to kill or drive them away. People hate cockroaches because they live in filthy conditions, destroy property and transmit diseases to people.

However, biologists affirmed that, although they are only very mediocre insects , cockroaches play an important role in the ecosystems on the planet. Professor Srini Kambhampati, head of the Department of Biology at the University of Texas in the US, asserts that the disappearance of cockroaches can disrupt the cycle of nitrogen - a gas that is very important for life, The Huffington Post for good.

" Most cockroaches eat decomposing organic matter - nitrogen-rich stuff. Then the cockroaches release nitrogen through the feces. Nitrogen enters the soil and plants take them to serve the growth process , " Kambhampati explained.

"In other words, cockroach extinctions can cause major disasters for forests and forest-dependent organisms , " the professor said.

Kambhampati also warned that about 5,000 to 10,000 species of cockroaches on the planet are also an important food source for many small animals such as birds and mice. Small animals become prey for larger species like eagles, wolves, and snakes. Therefore, the decrease in the number of cockroaches will cause food shortages for higher level species in the food chain.

Of course, the extinction of cockroaches is very unlikely. Biologists have asserted that, even if the nuclear war broke out, cockroaches would remain one of the animals that survived the disaster.
