Eel bends like a hair at the bottom of the sea

Many divers may mistakenly think garden eels with hairs stretching from the sea floor, fluttering in the water but easily disappear at any time.

According to Aqua Views, the garden eel has the scientific name Heterocongrinae , belonging to the sea eel family. They dig burrows under the tropical sandy bottom. More than 0.3 meters long, leopard-patterned eels cover the whole body with two large black dots on them.

Garden eels are relatively small compared to other species with them but have very large eyes. They rely almost entirely on eyesight to catch prey. Garden eels live in large flocks on the seabed, looking from a distance like a bunch of hair or sea grass. Each child has a private cave. This animal digs burrows with its tail, using a gland secreted in the tail to make the sand stick together. This way the cave does not collapse when the animal comes in and out.

Garden eels do not leave the cave when they eat, but hide the tail in the cave and extend most of the body out. Their food is plankton brought by the ocean currents. When frightened, they get into the cave and close the door with mucus to protect themselves. This is a hard-to-reach species because they are very shy and will disappear without a trace when a near diver is discovered.
