Calyx appeared a month ago in the Cambridge Botanical Gardens and is now three meters tall. The staff at the garden took care of the agave from 1962 but before it blossomed, they could not know exactly which species it belonged to. They speculate that this tree may be an Agave heteracantha .

The specialists of the botanical garden were happy when the calyx began to rise, a sign that the tree was about to bloom. Although they did not know how high it would grow, they were planning to remove the greenhouse roof for the tree to continue growing. Agave is a tree that shows fruit once, meaning that after flowering and sprouting seeds, the tree will die.

Agave is a member of the Asparagus family. After death, sometimes the tree will leave new sprouts at the root. The botanical garden predicts that the tree will bloom after about a month. "We are extremely happy. The tree is still there and suddenly it blooms , " said Sally Petitt, gardening chief.
