With a height of only about 4.8m, Old Tjikko tree is quite small compared to its 25m relatives at Mount Fulufjället, Sweden. However, this wonderful conifer is recognized as the world's oldest monogamous tree .(Photo: Huffington Post).

Tjikko sprouted from about 9,550 years ago, when the United Kingdom was still connected to Europe by a strip of ice, and glaciers just started to recede in Scandinavia.(Photo: Business Insider).

The tree lived anonymously until 2004, when discovered by geologist Leif Kullman and named Tjikko (after his dead dog).Scientists have used carbon methods to determine the age of the root system - which is thousands of years older than the trunk above the ground.(Photo: Daily Mail).

The trunk is actually only a few hundred years old, but the root system has survived thanks to the phenomenon of vegetative reproduction (the stem of the tree dies but the roots are alive and sprouting new) and the branches of the tree grow roots when touching the ground.(Photo: Dark-mountain).

Due to the harsh weather in the mountains, Tjikko exists as a shrub and has only reached its present height in the last century.Visitors can register tours to visit this place.(Photo: Hans-orjan / Blogspot).

In addition to Tjikko, the world also has many ancient trees to the utopia, such as nearly 5,000-year-old Methuselah pine tree in California (USA) . (Photo: Wordsmith).
