The Lighthouse of Alexandria is one of the tallest man-made structures in the world for centuries with a height of 137 m, considered by ancient scholars as one of the seven wonders of the world. It was built on Pharos Island in 280 BC after the death of Alexander the Great.
" The original structure consists of three floors, the lower square with the central core, the octagonal center and the round top at the top," RT quoted Professor Fathy Khourshid. The lighthouse uses a large mirror to reflect the sun and navigate the ships during the day. At night, large flames are lit inside the tower to help vehicles see the light from a distance.
The sea stopped working and was heavily influenced by a series of earthquakes between the third and the 12th centuries. It was completely destroyed in the 14th century.
