Equipment to help Russian soldiers fight Arctic colds

The military uniform is water resistant with three insulation layers, energy-rich foods are factors that help Russian soldiers fight in the North Pole.

Military uniform

One of the first factors helping VDV units to cope with extreme weather in the Arctic is a new waterproof military uniform that helps soldiers operate normally under low temperature conditions, even when they fall. frozen lake.

"This uniform consists of 13 different devices. They protect the soldier from exposure to the cold for a long time, as well as to prevent wind, rain and snow. The design of this uniform is optimized for wearer, allowing soldiers to wear armor and use weapons normally, " said military science professor Vadim Kozyulin.

Camouflage pattern on the Arctic military uniform is also different from the usual Russian camouflage patterns. They include gray, green and black dots to simulate the characteristic moss on the polar rocks. When wearing this outfit, soldiers can hide between rocks, as well as immerse themselves in snowy terrain.

This type of outfit can also be used in many different climates. Cold resistance is provided by underwear with three insulation layers. In order to protect the head, Russian soldiers are given fur caps with ear-flaps (ushanka), with a hooded mask with the ability to prevent heat loss through the skin.

"The mask covers the face and only leaves the eye area open. Soldiers can breathe comfortably without fear of cold. The military uniform allows them to survive at -60 degrees Celsius and wind speed of 55 km / h. " Mr. Kozyulin affirmed.

Energy-rich food

A special menu developed exclusively for Russian military units in the Arctic. Each diet consisted of 5,000 calories, almost twice as high as 3,000 calories of regular soldiers.

In addition to the traditional dishes, the VV team also carries energy-rich salt and sausage sandwiches, next to fruit juice and chocolate. If you have to work long hours in harsh conditions, each person is also given a variety of multivitamins to stimulate the immune system.

The soldier must know how to heat food even in -50 degree Celsius. Their food bag is accompanied by a multi-layer cooking stove, allowing to contain heating elements in multiple insulation layers."This is a way to help them survive and maintain their ability to fight in the Arctic region , " military expert Victor Murakhovsky said.

Weapons

In the 9/5/2017 Victory Day review, for the first time the weapons optimized for the Arctic appear, characterized by white, black and brown paint suitable for topographic camouflage. snow ice. These include Tor-M2DT and Pantsir-SA short-range air defense missile systems , BTR-82A troop transport vehicles and a number of supporting vehicles.

"These weapons are capable of securing Russian security in the harsh Arctic climate, with rugged terrain, no roads and far from logistics facilities , " Gen. Oleg Salyukov, army commander Russia, declared.

Tor-M2DT is the Arctic version of the Tor-M2 short range air defense missile complex with a range of about 13km. The original Tor-M2 model uses the GM-5955 self-propelled chassis, while the Tor-M2DT version is mounted on a dual-track crawler chassis DT-30PM-T1. This ensured the ability to maneuver on the snow terrain, helping the weapon to deploy to all areas according to Russia's will.
