Unveils 'Extreme' suits that help Russian soldiers look at 1,200 meters

In an effort to create a powerful combat suit for future soldiers, the Russian Defense Ministry will officially launch a new vision device with thermal imaging technology by the end of October 2013.

Russia currently has 160 sets of prototype vision kits to equip its special forces based in Moscow, said Oleg Yakovlev, adviser to the head of the Tsiklon Scientific Research Institute.

The new instrument can help Russian detectives target at 800-1,200 meters, which is an important component of the Ratnik fighting suit , which costs about 1 million rubles ($ 30,000) a set.

New test equipment may last from a few months to a year and a half. 'We hope the final tests will be successful and the integrated thermal imaging system in Ratnik will be approved in 2014,' said Yakovlev.

Earlier, Russian military officials said the Ratnik was not put into use due to the reorganization of the newly integrated light weapons system.

To date, the Ratnik has included more than 40 components, including weapons, armor and optical devices, communications and navigation, as well as life support and power supply systems.

The Rantik combat suit can be used for infantry, rocket launchers, snipers, riders and scouts.
