Establish a disaster management system in Asia
Beginning in 2006, the disaster management system in the Asia Pacific region will be built. The first conference discussing the construction of this system opened in the morning of February 14 in Hanoi.
The first coordinated project group meeting to develop a disaster management system in Asia - Pacific region.
By using ground-based remote sensing satellites, the system will predict the incidence and influence of natural disasters in the region. In addition, the system also supports quick decisions on disaster prevention activities.
In 2006-2007, Asian space agencies and natural disaster prevention agencies will coordinate to start building the project "Sentinel-Asia " (Asian Regional Supervisor). This is the first step of the disaster management system.
Through the internet, Sentinel-Asia will provide information from satellites on disaster prevention, especially information related to forest fires and floods.
In the next two years, the satellite remote sensing monitoring system of countries and information satellite networks will be well coordinated. The objective is to provide disaster warning to each person, monitor the occurrence of natural disasters, provide monitoring information for disaster prevention agencies.
It is expected that by 2010, the disaster management system in Asia - Pacific will be built completely.
