Extend the life of the tire with soy oil
Researchers at Goodyear Tire and Rubber have recently discovered that soybean oil can help reduce the amount of petroleum used to produce tires while extending the life of the tire.
According to the scientists, the use of soybean oil in rubber compounds to produce tires will reduce the amount of oil up to 26,500,000 liters per year while the life of tires will increase by about 10%.
In addition, the test showed that the rubber compound - soybean oil is more easily mixed with the rubber compound-silica in the production process. This means that the plants will use less energy and emit less greenhouse gases. Companies will therefore save more money than conventional production methods.
New tires will be tested in Texas in the coming months. If all goes well, the tires will be available in the market by 2015.
