The World Health Organization predicts COPD by 2020 will be the third highest cause of death worldwide. However, not all smokers are infected with COPD.

The study examined 149 middle-aged smokers, of whom 68 had COPD. While only 25% of the group has wrinkles, those with COPD are 5 times more likely to be in the wrinkled group.

COPD begins with a severe cough with sputum. It gradually leads to fatigue, the breathing difficulties caused by the lungs are destroyed.

Because the disease develops slowly, scientists believe that facial wrinkles are a sign of the disease before being discovered.
