Scottish scientists are conducting a project to find new antibiotics under the ocean worth more than $ 12 million.

Health officials have warned that the loss of antibiotics is becoming increasingly serious, while too few alternative drugs are available.

There are only a few antibiotic samples taken from narrow valleys at a depth of nearly 11 km on the ocean floor, but researchers believe that potential antibiotics will be found in this extremely harsh condition. .

The group of researchers is expected to use a fishing vessel to release the sampling device according to a cable to the seabed to collect sediment.

Scientists will then seek to nourish rare bacteria and mold from sediments to extract new antibiotics.

This project is funded by the European Union (EU) and will begin next fall in the Atacama region, east of the Pacific Ocean, about 161km from the coast of Chile and Peru.
