The scorpion species, named Euscorpiops cavernicola Lourenco & Pham, is known . They were discovered by Dr. Pham Dinh Sac of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Dr. Wilson Lourenco of Paris Museum of Natural History (France).
The new scorpion belongs to the family Euscorpiidae , described by the team based on specimens collected in Hua Ma cave, Quang Khe commune (Ba Be district, Bac Kan province). Description of the species was published in the International Journal Comptes Rendus Biologies last July.
This is the first time, scientists recorded the species of the scorpion Euscorpiidae distributed in the cave environment.
According to Dr. Pham Dinh Sac, the new discovery is not only meaningful in science but also has high practical value, because scorpion venom is a potential natural material for the current and future pharmaceutical industry.
