The mission of Hoa Binh hydropower plant

Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant has 4 main tasks:

Flood control

Da River is one of the three main tributaries of the Red River system, accounting for 55% of the water volume. Hoa Binh hydropower project contributes significantly to flood prevention for the Red River Delta region, including Hanoi capital.

Power generation

Hoa Binh hydropower plant is the main source of electricity supply for the entire Vietnam electricity system. In 1994, together with the inauguration of the factory and construction of the North-South 500KV line from Hoa Binh to Phu Lam station (Ho Chi Minh City) formed a national electricity network. This work contributes effectively in supplying electricity to the south and central Vietnam.

Irrigation and drought prevention for agriculture

Hoa Binh hydropower dam has an important contribution to the supply of irrigation water for agricultural production in the downstream areas including the Red River Delta, especially in the dry season. Regulating river water level while pushing saline water away from estuaries.

Waterway

Improving waterway transportation in both upstream and downstream. In 2004, the monument of Dien Bien Phu victory was mainly transported by this road.
