Find the new distribution area of ​​the rare three-sided oak

Three-sided oak was discovered in Vu Quang National Park (Ha Tinh) with over 300 individuals.

Mr. Hoang Thanh Son, a member of the research team, said that the plant species was found in sub-zone 224, altitude from 1,650 to 1,800m above sea level, with an amount of about 300-400 individuals. They are about 14-25m tall, trunk diameter is 30-70cm, trees are big up to 100m.

Three-sided oak has the scientific name Trigonobalanus verticillata Forman, belonging to the Fagaceae family but has many other morphological features such as round leaves, fruits with three sides.

Vu Quang National Park is the fifth area to find three-sided oak, which is also the first time scientists have found their new distribution area in the Central region. Previously, three-sided oak was recorded in Kon Ka Kinh National Park (Gia Lai, 2002), Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park (Lam Dong, 2007), Nam Nung Nature Reserve (Dak Nong, 2014). and Black shoots (Kon Tum, 2015).

The study is the result of cooperation between Kyushu University (Japan), Dalat University, Lam Sinh Research Institute and Vu Quang National Park. According to experts, it is necessary to introduce conservation and sustainable development policies for Vu Quang National Park in the coming time.

Natural forest Vu Quang National Park extends over 57,000 ha, making it an ideal habitat for plants and animals. According to the evaluation of experts and research institutions, there is biodiversity that is not inferior to any flora and fauna in the same territory.

As a result of the survey and statistics by the end of 2015, the National Park has a diverse flora with nearly 1,800 species out of 737 genera and 202 families of plants. Of which 131 endangered species need to be preserved with a list listed in the Red Book and Decree 32 of the Government.
