Firefox again gained market share from Internet Explorer
According to Web metering company Net Applications, Firefox's market share in August 2006 increased by 0.5%, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) market share fell by 0.5%.
Firefox's global browser market share is currently 11.8%, up from 11.3% in July 2006 (0.5%). Meanwhile, IE market share is 83%, down 0.5% compared to the previous July - 83.5%.
Market share of some other browsers increased slightly in August 2006, such as Safari (Apple) - an increase of 0.03%, reaching 3.21%; Opera increased by 0.05%, reaching 0.64%.
It is known that both Mozilla and Microsoft are trying to complete the next version of the Web browser. Last week, Mozilla launched the Firefox 2.0 Beta 2 beta; while Microsoft also announced Internet Explorer 7 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) a week earlier.
However, the time of finalizing Firefox 2.0 and IE 7 is still unknown to the two companies. Microsoft only promised to release IE7 for Windows later this year; and Mozilla is the end of October.
