Four-stranded DNA strands in human cells
Experts from Cambridge University (UK) said for the first time witnessed the DNA sequence has up to 4 fibers in fact.
The famous 'molecule of life' is to carry the genetic code of humans, commonly known as twisted structures.
Researchers have demonstrated the quadrilateral structure present in the human genome
However, British researchers say the quadruple chain structure is also present in our cells, in a way that may be related to cancer, according to a report in the Nature Chemistry journal.
They argue that controlling these structures, called G-quadruplex , can open new ways to fight cancer.
'The existence of these structures may occur when a cell contains a specific genetic gene, or falls into a dysfunctional condition,' says the BBC's Professor Shankar Balasubramanian.
Although it is necessary to demonstrate the relationship between the DNA helix chain and the cancer's ability, but if it does, experts believe it is possible to test the use of artificial molecules to attack this 'abnormal' gene segment, with hope leads to an effective cancer treatment.
