France completes the network of comet tracking cameras

Watching the comet's fall as well as the beautiful meteor showers as they burn in the atmosphere is always difficult. However, France seems to have taken appropriate measures when announcing the new FRIPON comet detection system.

This system will help scientists to obtain more specimens of the comet.

According to the technical documentation, FRIPON uses a huge network of camcorders across France (currently there are 68 and will expand to more than 100 in the near future) to track the location of the comet's fall.

When any camera detects "strange phenomenon", it sends a warning to the scientists immediately. Providing images - though not always accurate - will help narrow down the final dropping position (maybe only about 1km). Then, scientists can send volunteers to collect samples for the study.

The launch of the new camcorder network is expected to increase the amount of specimens collected throughout France. It would help France capture a comet every year - not bad if you know that Spain's similar system over the last 12 years has only helped scientists to collect specimens. of 2 comets only.
