With an average of 2 women per woman, France surpassed Ireland (1 woman has 1.9 children) to become the country with the highest birth rate in Europe. The average rate in Europe is 1 woman with 1.5 children.
The trend of having many children in France is going against the trend in Europe. Currently almost all countries in Europe encourage more children because of fear of aging population.
Birth rates in France have steadily increased over the years and have reached the highest level in the last 25 years. Three-quarters of France's population growth rate is due to rising birth rates, the rest is due to immigration. Currently the French population is about 63 million.
The high birth rate in France is because the government has created many favorable conditions for women. Women in France can both give birth and go to work, but their income does not decrease much while in other countries they have to choose either. The French government also promised to donate 1,000 Euro each month to anyone who has given birth to a third child within a year. In addition, the conditions for daycare and childcare also receive many incentives.
