Global sea level may rise by 1.5m
According to a recent scientific analysis, by the end of the century, global sea level could rise to 1.5 m, higher than the previous forecast of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( IPCC).
According to the report, published by British and Finnish scientists at a scientific conference in Vienna (Austria), this

will have tremendous impacts on countries in lowland areas like Bangladesh. This conclusion is based on considering the relationship between global temperature and sea level over the past two millennia.
' In the last 2,000 years, the average global sea level has been very stable and changed only about 20cm ', said researcher Svetlana Jevrejeva of Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory (POL) based near Liverpool (UK). ' However, by the end of the century, we forecast that the sea level will increase from 0.8 to 1.5m. This increase will take place rapidly in the next few years when combined with the rapid melting of ice blocks . '
This is not the first study to suggest that the IPCC forecast of sea level rise is 'too conservative' (according to IPCC, by 2100, global sea level will increase by 28-43 cm).
Last year, German researcher Stefan Rahmstorf also made a similar forecast for Dr. Jevrejeva's group, saying that sea level will rise from 0.5 to 1.4 m by 2100.
