Great attraction comes from single life

American social scientists say the growing number of Americans living alone shows a profound change in life and social culture in the country.

>>> Theblood pressure of happy people in marriage is lower than that of single people

According to a US Census Bureau survey, 50.2% of adults in the United States, or 124.6 million people, are living alone. This rate was only 22% in 1950 and 37% in 1976.

The special thing is that the number of single people in the United States is increasing even though meeting and dating becomes easier than ever.

This is a tremendous change because Americans always consider getting married as an important step and must be taken as an adult.

'Meeting and dating with the opposite sex is easier than ever with modern technologies' - Public Radio Intertional quoted professor of sociology Eric Klinenberg of New York University.

Professor Klinenberg is the author of the research book Going solo: The extraordinary rise and surprising appeal of living alone (Single: The extraordinary rise and surprising attraction of single life) . He evaluated the phenomenon of more and more single people reflecting the profound changes of American culture.

In fact, the more social networks and online dating sites appear, the fewer Americans get married.'The problem here is that people have too many choices. When you know too many people, you will easily discover weaknesses in each person and it is difficult to choose someone, because everyone has a good side and a bad side, " said Professor Klinenberg.

Moreover, the maturation process of Americans is stretching out.'A lot of people spend an important part of their lives being in their 20s and early 30s to really grow up. They invest their time in their work, feel anxious about their careers, and have trouble going into a new phase of life that is traditionally a mature age, ' Professor Klinenberg said.

Other experts also believe that celibacy helps Americans control their time and space well . Although they are single, they have a vibrant social life with connecting to social networks 24/24. Being single also helps divorced people focus on the priorities of life like careers, find themselves and understand what they want before starting another relationship.

Marriage also means spending more on houses and children . But Professor Klinenberg said that in fact, the single trend in the US has started before the financial crisis of 2008. It's a Cultural and social changes have been less noticed by American public opinion so far.

However, celibacy is economically beneficial for many Americans. According to Bloomberg, economists say people who are single because they do not have children should often be willing to change jobs, be more proactive in building careers.

Therefore, many single people are willing to venture into business. Since there are often no children or just renting a house, the costs of single people also decrease.
