Green light on smartphones increases the risk of cancer

A recent study showed that prolonged exposure to blue light increased breast cancer risk by 1.5 times and prostate cancer doubled.

According to a recent study, exposure to artificial blue light on devices such as smartphones and street LED lights can cause many side effects to your health.

Researchers have found that people who are frequently exposed to high levels of blue light at night have a higher risk of some cancers than normal people.

Typically, the risk of developing breast cancer is 1.5 times higher and prostate cancer is twice as high. Especially in men, this risk increases to 2.8 times.

Men exposed to blue light are 2.8 times more likely to have prostate cancer.

The study was published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives by comparing previous green light exposure of 2,000 prostate or breast cancer patients to another normal group of about 2,000 people in Barcelona and Madrid.

Alejandro Sánchez de Miguel, the team leader, shared with CNN that this is the first time there has been a study of the correlation between artificial blue light and the risk of breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Research shows that blue light is at greatest risk to health. Besides, other types of artificial light such as red or green light also have a bad influence on the development of cancer.

Green light on smartphones is the cause of sleeplessness.

Green light has a shorter wavelength, so it carries more energy than other types of light. Exposure to blue light can reduce melatonin, an important hormone that helps regulate the body's natural sleep cycle and is also known as an antioxidant.

According to Sánchez de Miguel, a sufficient level of melatonin in the brain can prevent the development of certain types of cancer.

Currently, blue light is being widely used in many outdoor LED lights with color temperatures greater than 3,000 Kelvin. Green light also appears inside devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Sánchez de Miguel also emphasized that this study focused on blue light from outdoor LED lights, not smartphones or tablets. But in essence they have the same mechanism of influence so they are both harmful to your health.

For users of smartphones, computers and tablets, restrict the use of the device at night or in areas with low light conditions.

In addition, support devices such as eyeglasses or blue light filtering applications can be used on phones and tablets such as Night Shift mode on iPhone.
