Ha Long culture may have spread abroad

Scientists at the Vietnam Institute of Archeology have discovered a vestige of Ha Long culture in Co To Island (Quang Ninh), showing that Ha Long culture owner is a very good person going to the sea.

According to Dr. Trinh Nang Chung, Vietnam Institute of Archeology, head of the survey team, this is the first time, Ha Long cultural vestige is found in the farthest position to the East in the North East Sea of the country. .

The site dates back 4,000 years

This site is distributed on a large sand bar located north of Co To town. Surveying on the surface of the site, archaeologists discovered some relics bearing cultural characteristics of Ha Long.

These are pore stones on one or two stone surfaces and grooved grinding tables (used to sharpen tools of a certain size, in the process of grinding have created grooves with narrow widths, different shallow depths) ) featured 'mark Ha Long'.

These relics are exactly the same as the relics of the same type found in previous coastal Ha Long ruins.

Although not yet explored, but the archaeologists identify this as the residence of cultural residents of Ha Long, dating back about 4,000 years today.

Ha Long culture is about 4,500 - 3,500 years ago, which is the most dynamic culture that archaeologists recorded in the new post-stone period of Vietnam.

The habitat of the Ha Long ancient people is relatively abundant, including some caves and coastal foothills. The technique of manufacturing tools of ancient Ha Long people is mainly stone sawing and polishing to create unique tools such as axes, brooms (an ax-like tool) with shoulders, hiccups.

The first resident on Co To Island

But, one of the problems that researchers wonder is how ancient Ha Long residents spread their culture on such a large area?

With the discovery of Ha Long relics on Co To Island, Ha Long culture owners are very good people going to the sea. Thanks to the means such as boats, the array has led them to cross the coast, residing on the offshore islands.

'Maybe the cultural owner of Ha Long is the first residents to explore Co To Island. It is likely that from here, as a transit station, the influence of Ha Long culture spread to the North, to the coastal areas of Guangdong, China and down to the Malay Peninsula as the certified archaeological documents , 'said Dr. Nang Nang Chung.

However, this newly discovered site is being damaged by a new road opened from Co To town to Dong Tien commune. Archaeologists are promoting the study of this site.
