Hard work hard to compensate smartly, learning like buffalo plowing sometimes does not work as well as learning less

While learning and playing properly, it seems to be a bad way to study, but the experiment has shown it to be more effective than traditional learning.

The educators are always looking for ways to make the teaching method more effective, and surprisingly, they discovered that the secret to effective learning is sometimes . to learn less.

Educational researchers have found a lot of evidence to confirm this statement. They think that having adequate breaks will make the knowledge much longer remembered. This is not only true for students and students, but also businesses and companies who are currently training personnel.

Having appropriate breaks will make your knowledge much longer.

This idea was originally initiated by Paul Kelley , a former sleep-loving principal, or late for work. It was because of his habit that Paul left his students' classes late and it was interesting when he discovered that the brains of young people in particular and people in general, we didn't do everything very well. morning.

Fortunately for humans, apart from sleeping preferences, Kelley also enjoys researching educational solutions. He is currently a researcher at Oxford University and president of the UK High-level Science Society. During his research, Kelley discovered a close relationship between time packs and long-term human memory .

Listen to something that is so complicated with professors?

Simply put, memory is made based on the activity of neurons in the brain. However, in order for it to be done, these neurons need a time of rest and no disturbance. Simply put, if we keep learning and constantly learning, we won't remember much, but while studying and playing properly, it will be a top-notch learning method that will help us to remember knowledge and make it easier to use Use when needed.

Professor Paul Kelley, the controversial researcher who posted on The Guardian because he thinks that being late is a better way for the world.

In the process of learning, if neurons are distracted when they are active, during the process of building memory, this memory space will be affected. This is why learning rote is so fast but forget fast and get lost. We force the brain to tolerate too many things at the same time to make it remember.

Of course, hardly anyone believes in Kelley's research, many people believe that it has little to do with remembering when repeated many times, it will be easier to remember. Therefore, Kelley asked for help from the Surrey business school in England to test whether his idea was right or not.

Kelley test

600 students were invited to participate in this experiment, they were divided into 3 groups. They were asked to study the same curriculum on advertising, but the approach and learning styles were different. The first group study in the traditional way, study and then test the lesson. The second group is assigned to study on their own and the third group is allowed to learn and play at the same time. The method of the third group is called Spaced learner when they have certain breaks during their learning.

Of course, the 3rd group learning method is not the same as other groups. There were times when they went to class, they were crammed with knowledge in their heads continuously, and they could not even remember to remember. However, after a period of knowledge stuffing is 10 minutes of rest for students to do whatever they want to do. Someone sat on the nose, some even took time off to complete a copy of Picasso's painting.

Initial result

After a week of study, 600 students in the test were asked to do a short test. This test aims at three factors, the ability to absorb knowledge, apply reality and outside lessons that the curriculum does not teach.

And when grading, those who learn and play Spaced learner remember 20% more than those who learn in the traditional way and 23% more than those who study by themselves.

In other words, at the same time, people who study and play memorize more than a fifth than those who learn in the usual way. But self-study is not discussed, many people sometimes do not study.

The parameters are even more interesting when the research team scores more carefully on the assignment. Students who study in the traditional way remember 78% of what they learn in the first half and only 22% in the second half. That means studying for only 30 minutes is nearly 4 times more effective than studying continuously for 1 hour.

Go to part 2, apply reality, those who belong to the group Spaced learner once again excel. Even so, the distance between them and the other groups is shortened. They are only 13% more than traditional students and 19% compared with self-study people.

Self-study is a popular way, but its practical effect is not very high.

Similar to additional knowledge in addition to textbooks, the Spaced learner group has only 10% higher results than the traditional study group and 15% higher than the self-study group. Finally, the overall result is that the Spaced learner group has the next highest result to the traditional learning group and the table is the self-study group.

Excited with the results of the research, Professor Andy Adcroft thinks Kelley's Spaced learning method is much more effective than the traditional teaching practices that all schools are applying.

Even so, Professor Andy Adcroft also suggested that the way of learning Spaced learning cannot replace the traditional method of learning completely. It can be interwoven with traditional lessons but cannot be completely replaced.

"Through experimentation, it is possible to see how effective the teaching method is. We can coordinate using Spaced learning for lessons with background knowledge, basic knowledge or important knowledge. but in other periods still need to be taught according to the traditional method, this method will probably be more suitable for organizations with training, educating employees to save on study costs, staff will not It takes too much class to grasp the initial training knowledge. It is interesting to discover more effective ways of education that we rarely pay attention to, "said Professor Andy Adcroft.

Thus, through the above test, it can be seen that the most effective way of learning is not plugging in and studying all night, spending tens of hours but studying time is stressful, focusing for 30 minutes and then rest 10 to 15 minutes after school. That's it, sometimes it is impossible to compensate for a methodical, intelligent learning.

However, the test was only done at the level of 600 students so it may not be true for many people. If you feel that traditional learning is inappropriate, try changing to see if Spaced learning is right for you.
