IBM is about to launch a smaller computer than a grain of salt

The cost of this computer is only $ 0.1.

At the IBM ThinkPads 2018, IBM unveiled the world's smallest computer. This is not a joke. True to its literal meaning, this computer is smaller than a grain of salt.

Despite its super-small size, this machine has the computing power of x86 chips since 1990. However, in terms of size, that power is great. Only one thing, one may need a microscope to look at its components when something goes wrong.

According to IBM, the cost of manufacturing this machine is less than 10 cents but contains hundreds of thousands of transistors. The computer allows 'tracking, analyzing, transmitting and even processing data'.

Specifically, this computer will be a data source for blockchain applications to track cargo movements and detect fraud. It can also perform basic AI tasks, such as sorting given data.

According to IBM, this is just the beginning. "In the next five years, quantum cryptography with a computer smaller than a grain of salt - will be embedded in everyday gadgets and devices," said IBM researcher Arvind Krishna . If this becomes true, we will have more viral systems in objects and equipment in the near future.

IBM is testing the prototype first, and it is unclear when it will be released.
