Using archaeological methods , bone analysis, chemical tests, 3-D technology and genealogy, the team identified the identities of the four remains: Reverend Robert Hunt, Gabriel Archer, Ferdinando Wainman and William West. These are four characters who helped the leader of the Jamestown colony over a difficult period after its founding in 1607.

Scientists have recovered about 30% of each remains and based on that, the age at which these people died is between 24-39 years old. Specifically, Robert Hunt, the first English priest in the United States, died at the age of 39 in 1608. Gabriel Archer died around the end of 1609-early 1610 at the age of 34, during a famine in the settlement. . Wainman also died at the age of 34 and was the first British knight to be buried in the United States while William West died at the age of 24.
