Indian President will open the World Math Congress

The names of the winners of the International Mathematical Association will be announced after the opening of the World Mathematical Congress today.

The 2010 World Mathematical Congress (ICM 2010) took place in Hyderabad, India from August 19-27. The congress is organized under the auspices of the International Math Union (IMU).

Ms. Pratibha Patil, President of India, will open ICM 2010 and award awards to mathematicians, after the opening ceremony. The awards include the Fields Medal, the Nevanlinna Prize, the Gauss Prize and the Chern Medal. The Chern Medal is the latest award and will be awarded for the first time at ICM 2010. The Gauss Prize was first awarded in 2006 in Madrid, Spain.

The opening ceremony takes place from 9:30 am to 12.30 am Indian time. A press conference will be held at 13pm at the Hyderabad International Convention Center to announce the names of the winners. Professor Ngo Bao Chau, a Vietnamese, is expected to win a Fields Medal.

The president of the selection councils will announce the names of the winning mathematicians in the press conference. Then the selection boards will answer questions from reporters. In addition, reporters also have the opportunity to interact with winners, members of the IMU Executive Committee and the ICM Organizing Committee 2010.

Professor Ngo Bao Chau, a Vietnamese mathematician, is one of those invited to read the report at the plenary session of ICM 2010. With the research project named Prestige Magazine on the list of "10 plays The most outstanding scientific illustration of 2009 " , many people predicted that Professor Bao Chau will be awarded the Fields Medal.
