The BK-GAlm electrolyte brings the drug into the body through the skin

Engineers of the Biomedical Electronics Center, Hanoi University of Technology, have created a new version of the electrolysis machine. The machine has the function of bringing drugs into the body through the skin, very useful in physiotherapy.

After applying the medication to the cushioning cloth located on the electrode, the doctor applies electrodes made of lead or rubber to the place where the treatment is needed.

Under the effect of direct current, the drug will permeate through the skin, forming a drug store beneath the skin.

This drug store will be released and spread slowly, bringing high effectiveness in the treatment of pain relief, anti-inflammatory (such as arthritis), restoring nerve and muscle function (such as post-joint stiffness) , vascular accident, keloids, hard scar .

Two machines of this type are being used for testing at Hospital E (Hanoi).

This is a new version from the old machine also by GS's research team. Dr. Nguyen Duc Thuan built in 2002.

The new electrolysis machine has a modern, safer design, uses microcontroller and can set the treatment time from 1 to 59 minutes.

According to Dr. Hung, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, the advantage of the machine is to bring the drug directly into the place where treatment is needed . Therefore, the amount of drug penetrated into the body is much lower than the oral route but still ensures the effect as oral. In addition, this technique also helps patients avoid side effects, such as gastric irritation and gastrointestinal hemorrhage, which some anti-inflammatory, analgesic drugs cause.

It is known that on average, about 20-30 patients are treated by electrolysis machine per day, according to health insurance, in Hospital E. Although it is a specialized device, the cost of the machine is very cheap, only about more than 1 million VND. Previously, the Center for Biomedical Electronics also made an electrolytic machine that can be used to deliver drugs into the eyes through the skin.
