Intelligent blind for the blind

British scientists have introduced a smart glass that can help people identify objects or translate street signs into sounds.

>>> Samsung will also have smart glass

Smart glass is the work of the Oxford University team. They use software and small cameras on the glass to detect objects near the wearer and display the image on the object.

Two small cameras on the corner of the glass to record two different images as the human eye. The images display information from the camera on the transparent LED screen on the glasses so that the wearer will see the image more clearly and still be able to use their current visibility. Comparing the distance between cameras will indicate how far the object is from the wearer.

The headset performs the function of receiving and transmitting information in the form of text, numbers, and symbols into sound clips that help guide the wearer.

The smart is also fitted with a compass, a GPS navigation device and a gyroscope to measure as well as maintain direction.

Stephen Hicks, a member of the research team, said the smart glasses will help visually impaired people adapt to everyday life more easily. Researchers also hope to be able to develop software with a variety of functions that testers consider very useful. For example, smart glasses can use light levels to show depth or to detect a person who is appearing based on that person's movements, or can read aloud bus locations or numbers. .

It is estimated that more than 2 million Britons have visual impairment, of which 300,000 are confirmed blind due to causes such as macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
