Is the computer just as smart as a 4 year old?

(Natural and artificial researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC University) once tested the IQ of leading artificial intelligence systems to hit See how much 'smart' these systems really are.

It turned out that these systems were just as intelligent as a four-year-old child, scientists reported their findings on July 17 at the American Artificial Intelligence Conference in Bellevue, Wash.

The UIC research team placed ConceptNet 4 , an artificial intelligence system developed at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), through the sections of the intellectual scale of Preschool and Weschsler Primary School, one Evaluate IQ standards for children.

They found ConceptNet 4 had an average IQ of a child. But unlike most children, the machine has a very uneven score in parts of the test.

'If a child has too many variability scores, it may be a sign of illness,' said Robert Sloan, professor and head of Computer Science at UIC, and the lead author of the study. This said.

Sloan said ConceptNet 4 performed well on vocabulary tests and a test of similarities.

'ConceptNet 4, however, suddenly has a much worse outcome on the cognitive part - the answer to the question' why ' , ' he said.

One of the most difficult issues in creating an artificial intelligence, Sloan said, is to install a computer program that can emit sound and judge carefully based on a simple concept of a situation. or events - a dictionary definition in the usual way.

Naturally eluded engineers for artificial intelligence because it requires a whole collection of events and what Sloan calls potential events - things that are so obvious that we don't know that they we know them. A computer can know which temperature is the temperature that water freezes, but we know that ice is cold.

'We all know a large number of things , ' Sloan said. 'As a child, we surrounded and tugged on objects and learned that objects fell. We have grabbed objects and other things and learned that dogs and cats do not like to be grabbed and pulled ' . Life is an extremely rich learning environment.

'We are still far from building an artificial intelligence program that can answer cognitive questions that correspond to the skills of an 8-year-old child , ' Sloan said. He and his colleagues hope that this study will help scientists focus their attention on 'hard points' in research on artificial intelligence.
