Is the left or right half face more attractive?
(scienceinfo.net) - Is the side of the left side or half of our right face more attractive? A photographer made a photo that revealed what a person's image would look like if their faces were identical
Everyone has a better looking side, and a photographer tried to see which side it was.
New York photographer Alex John Beck, 32, took portraits of 10 people and created symmetrical images using the left and right half of their faces in turn. The photos are then placed side by side for comparison.
He told MailOnline: "I was surprised at the subtle but undeniable difference between each character of their own half faces."
Indeed, in a photo from the left half of the face, the image of a man among the 10 people appeared with a relatively slender neck and moles on his cheeks, under his eyes. But in this half-matched photo of the man's right side there are many traces of broken blood vessels and stretch marks on the skin.
While with a girl, the girl's eyes look closer together in the portrait made up of half the right face - making her look almost squashed, but the picture is made up of half of her left face completely balance.
Mr. Beck said, people who were portrayed in this series showed their surprise and disappointment when they saw their own picture.
They include men and women of different ethnicities, who he met during the photography process over the years.
Describing their reaction, he said: "Usually they show frustration even when they see only a small emotional difference between one side and the other." For example, one side of the face usually shows more focus or attention than the other.
'The fact that only one side seems less expressive than the other proves a concern, showing a lack of overall control, overall dominance over the basic functions of expressiveness' .
Mr. Beck said, he often defines beauty in the same way as others, but in the context of the project he does, it's about having a more symmetrical face.
He named this photo collection 'Both Sides Of'.
Explaining why, Mr. Beck said: "Because this set of images is not about deviation from reality, it's images that show the versions of reality that we are choosing to represent. Marketing ".
"If we show the original image of everyone, the viewer will use it as a reference point, and instead of comparing the two versions, they will only move their eyes from one image to the next. original, then look again, trying to detect what's different in the photos ".
According to science writer Sam Kean, the left side of our face is more expressive than our right, because the left side is controlled by a part of the brain responsible for emotions.
For example, the left side of the brain controls the language, while the right side controls spatial awareness and facial recognition. The right side of the brain also controls the left side of the body, making the left more expressive.
Kean concludes: "We think we are aware of most of what we are doing, and it is a bit confusing to see this moment, and these small things appear, in a way. it is sudden ".
