Japan: Discovered another outbreak of bird flu

In Japan, authorities have discovered an additional outbreak of bird flu in the South. This further raises concerns about the possibility of widespread bird flu outbreaks in Asia.

The officials of Miyazaki, southern Japan on January 23 said that a new outbreak of bird flu has occurred in the area after 250 birds of a poultry farm in the northern region of The province died massively.

Earlier this month, the avian influenza virus appeared on another farm in Miyazaki province, killing thousands of chickens. The provincial government ordered the destruction of all the remaining chickens in the farm.

Within two days, 500 birds died at a farm in Miyazaki Prefecture. Test results show that the number of dead chickens is positive for avian influenza virus. The authorities have now banned the transportation of eggs and 40,000 remaining poultry out of the farm.

Earlier this week, bird flu also appeared on a farm in Miyazaki district making 3900 dead chickens. The bird flu virus found on this chicken farm is the same type as the bird flu virus in western China in 2005 and has been found in Mongolia, South Korea and Russia.
