Officials in Japan have confirmed that the recent bird flu outbreak on a farm was caused by the H5N1 virus. This outbreak was found on a farm in Hyuga, the second outbreak in Miyazaki's main poultry farming area.

Samples taken from 3,000 dead chickens from the farm showed that all were infected with the H5N1 virus. Officials said they had begun destroying the 49,000 remaining farm birds from Friday. Besides, 50,000 chickens from a nearby farm will also be destroyed to prevent.
Since early 2004, several H5N1 outbreaks have been discovered in Japan, but there have been no cases of infected people. The previous H5N1 outbreak was discovered in mid-January in the same area of Miyazaki.
Officials in Asia are all very worried because more and more countries are discovering cases in poultry and in humans.
