Japan makes smart gas masks for firefighters
NEC Corporation makes smart respirators that help the wearer see in the dark and provide important information when traveling in smoke-dense areas.
NEC Corporation has successfully manufactured a smart gas mask for firefighters.
NEC experts say the smart mask is equipped with an infrared camera, making it easier for firefighters to find their way and locate those waiting to be rescued even in extreme conditions. . The image is displayed on a small screen mounted near the eye.
As well as providing firefighters with vital data such as oxygen levels in the oxygen tank, smart masks also share images and data with commanders, so they can communicate with firefighters. Fire is operating in a hazardous environment.
NEC expects to put the mask into service in early 2023.
