If previously, Japanese spokesman Yoshihide Suga said the government welcomed the addition of a new territory even though it was very small, now it is multiplied by 8 times.

According to satellite observations, the volcanic island of Nishinoshima is about 500 meters from the new island, erupted and expanded during 1973-1974. These two islands are located about 130 km from the nearest inhabited island of Japan.

Japanese scientists said they hoped the island would survive for at least a few years, if not forever.
