Lack of breathing air, India surpassed China in terms of the number of deaths due to air pollution

News website Hindustan Times quoted Greenpeace as saying that the number of deaths from air pollution in India has surpassed China in 2015 due to the lack of appropriate government measures.

Using data from the Global Burden of Disease study, Greenpeace reports that outdoor air pollution has killed 3,283 Indians in 2015, higher than the 3,233 people at in China.

The study found a direct link between exposure to outdoor air pollution and premature death.

The number of deaths from pollution in India has increased from 2,100 in 1990 to 2,502 in 2000, and then to 2,865 in 2010, before soaring in the past 5 years.

Meanwhile, in China, the number of deaths due to air pollution was 2,620 people in 1990, rising to 3,010 in 2000, and then rising to 3,100 in 2010.

Explaining this trend, Sunil Dahiya, representative of Greenpeace in India, said that due to the increasing consumption of fossil fuels , pollution levels in China are getting worse and worse. . From 2005 to 2011, the level of dust and pollution in China increased by about 20%. 2011 was the worst year in Chinese history of air pollution. Now it is India's turn to become increasingly polluted.

The trend in India shows that the government is lacking a unified effort to reduce pollution levels. Analysis of data, experts found that, after 2011, pollution in China has decreased somewhat when the country introduced measures to control coal-fired thermal power plants and the number of vehicles on the road. .

Other environmental experts also said that if there is no overall plan to handle air pollution, the level of pollution will continue to break new records.

Environmental pollution has become one of India's most pressing problems in the winter. Last year, the World Health Organization (WHO) also ranked Delhi as the most polluted city in the world, surpassing Chinese cities.
