Large meteorite by bus has just approached the Earth

The US space agency (NASA) says meteorites the size of a large bus have flown over the Earth at a very close distance of 1/4.

On Sunday (1/4), the 2012 EG5 meteorite with a diameter of 46m flew over Earth at a distance of 230,000km - closer than the distance between the Moon and Earth, but does not pose any threat to the planet we.

If crashed into Earth, the 2012 EG5 meteorite will create an explosion equivalent to a nuclear explosion. A similar sized meteorite plunged into Earth and caused a catastrophe that caused extinct dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

The 2012 EG5 meteorite was discovered by NASA astronomers on March 13, 2012 by the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope in Hawaii. The telescope is 1.8 meters in diameter and is equipped with the world's largest digital camera, with a resolution of 1,400 megapixels.

According to Space.com , 2012 EG5 is the third meteorite to fly over Earth with close distance in just a few days. Earlier, on March 26, two small 2012 meteorites FP35 and 2012 FS35, with a diameter of less than 10m, have in turn flew over the Earth at a distance of 154,000km and 58,000km.

Another meteorite, named 2012 FA57, discovered on March 28, is predicted by experts to fly over Earth on April 4, but at a distance farther than the distance between the Moon and the Left. land.

Currently, NASA scientists and other research groups often observe the sky to detect large and dangerous meteorites, to analyze whether they affect Earth.
