Meteors approaching Earth in 2026
A 20-meter-diameter meteorite will fly "close to" the surface of our green planet in the next 13 years, RIA Novosti cites new figures announced April 25.
The 2013 GM3 meteorite on April 14, 2026 will be only 8,620km from the Earth's surface, more than the blue planet radius of about 2,230km, Italian astronomer Francesco Manca of Sormano Observatory, near Milan, for know.

With the latest estimates, 2013 GM3 will fly very close to Earth and be located in the geostationary orbit of 35,700.
It is known that this meteorite was discovered in mid-April by Mount Lemmon Observatory (Arizona, USA). However, according to previous calculations by the US Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), it will fly over Earth at a distance of 39,000km.
NASA also estimates the probability of 2013 GM3 hitting Earth in the period between 2028 and 2113 at 0.018%.
RIA Novosti said that the 2013 GM3 size could be compared to asteroids that exploded in the sky of Chelyabinsk in Russia's Ural region in February, injuring 1,500 people. It is known that the largest meteorite ever penetrated the Earth's atmosphere in 83 years.
